About me
Luciana Ruiz is the Head Coach and founder of Evanston Township High School Rowing - a scholastic program out of Evanston, IL created to enhance diversity, equity, and access to competitive high school rowing. Growing up in Arkansas, Ruiz was not exposed to rowing until her time at Northwestern University. She quickly fell in love with the sport and the diverse Evanston community. Ruiz worked with local rowing leaders after graduation to establish the dues-free ETHS rowing program in 2022. Since its inception, Evanston Rowing has boomed and grown to 80 athletes in less than 3 years, bringing the sport to a new population of diverse athletes and was recently awarded the A Most Beautiful Thing Inclusion Fund grant for its work breaking barriers in the sport. Ruiz lives and works in Chicago, and hopes to see Evanston Rowing go to Youth Nats one day!
